MARDI GRAS COMPETITION
A. MECHANICS:
- The competition is open to all Barangays in the Municipality of Pandan. The Maximum number of participants shall be 40 but not less than 30, open to all ages.
- The presentation shall be in either form: (a) theatrical, i.e., musical play, dance drama, stylized dance incorporated into folkdance music; or (b) street dancing, i.e., synchronized/choreograph dance. music for; (a) shall be a choice of ethnic, drumbeats, folk dance or tribal music for (b) choice of Latin like reggae, samba, salsa, techno-jazz music. Participants may also choose any suitable music other than prescribed above.
- Length of the performance shall not exceed 5 minutes but not lesser than 3 minutes excluding the preliminary and exit performances, provided, that the overall performances including the short introduction shall not exceed 8 minutes. In cases the introduction or synopsis is being read in the middle of the performance, it is considered as part of the performance and therefore, included in the time limit. For every 30 seconds that a tribe exceeds the time limit, each judge will deduct one (1) point from the tribe’s final score.
- The concept of the presentation must be relevant to the local festivity/festival being showcased by the Barangay as the “Bilad-Kinamayad”.
- A brief introduction and description of the show must be submitted to the committee. The description must contain the explanation of the tribe’s name, number of the dancers and name of the choreographers. The tribe must also submit a written synopsis or a background about its local festival to the contest committee not later than April 21, 2005 or four (4) days before the contest.
- The performers’ costume should be relevant to the local festivity/festival being showcased by the Barangay and must be colorful as possible. They may use any paraphernalia to enhance their overall performance.
- Participation are encourage to perform street dancing during the parade, however judging will be done at the municipal plaza.
- The decision of the Board of judges is final and irrevocable. No protest shall be entertained except for errors in the mathematical computations of scores and ranks.
- In cases not covered by the rules and regulations, the board of judges and the contest committee are empowered to decide on the matter.
